17/09/18 | Jacob Potter

Jacob reviews the weekend's action with some shock results in the 2nd week of the season!

The result of the weekend that certainly raised eyebrows was YMCA Newbury's opening game victory over Brookside St Laurence. The visitors ran out astonishing 12-0 winners over the 2016/2017 league champions. Karim Gaye (4), a brace from Patrick Nelligan and Jordan Sharpe, Ric Marshall, Nat Debney-Davies and Matt Bullock saw YMCA Newbury run out convincing winners.

Last season's league champions Barkham Athletic got their title defence underway with a 6-1 win over Reading Saints. Goals from Matt Bacon, Sam Robinson and four from Dom Howard saw the hosts get off to the perfect start. Dan Hare scored a consolation for the visitors who remain winless.

Bethel United kept up their 100% record with a 4-2 win over an injury-hit Norreys side. A brace from Akeem Roach and goals from Stephan Boyce and Stu Newton proved to be enough for Bethel who currently sit top of the table on goal difference. Ronnie Watkins scored a brace in reply for Norreys.

YMCA United went winless for the entire of the 2017/2018 season but earned a hard-fought three points away to Wycliffe United as they won 2-1. Goals from Paul Ciobanu and Alex Storey saw United come away with the win. Ethan Axford was on target for Wycliffe.

Tilehurst maintained their 100% record with a 2-1 win over West Reading. Goals from Charlie Baines and Harvey Owen proved to be enough for Baines' side.
